When we arrived luncheon was almost over at the Horticulture and Gardening Group, but all the same the temptation to participate was almost too much and some of us succumbed (no names mentioned).

Members had made Christmas decorations with a garden theme, ideas gleaned from the New Zealand Gardener magazine. Mary's table centre was very attractive and one person had made a particularly pretty display of red flowers.

When this group is not celebrating the festive season, they talk about bugs, garden ones of course, and how to deal with them. They have a recipe for coddling moth which attacks apple trees, and tips on how to control white butterflies and the passion fruit hoppers. Talks cover a variety of subjects such as composting; soils; light and temperature and how it affects growth; plant nutrition and health.

A very interesting subject, take a look at it for the New Year and give the convener a ring:- Margaret Richardson, phone 576-5292; there are vacancies in this group, so get in early to be in!
